What’s going on here is that David was up to his usual scheming. He knows that he would need bread for the journey, so he asks a priest to hand over the holy bread. The priest of course is suspicious of all this, but David lies his way through his teeth and eventually gets his bread.

Here’s one more example where we read a passage from scripture and scratch our heads, wondering how it might have some relevance to our own lives.

You might not believe it, but there are times in scripture where the story is simply the story and there may be no deeper meaning to your life or mine.

And that’s okay!

The Bible contains much wisdom for us, as a whole. However, there are many passages that simply aren’t going to have the connecting effect with your life, and it’s fine to simply allow this to be.

There will be another week, with more verses to come, regardless. In those, perhaps there is a better connection with your life. In the meantime, sit back, relax and try to enjoy the larger story at play in scripture.

God, you connect my life to your holy word, despite whatever lack of connection I might see any one day. Guide me right now in everything I need. Amen.
