1 Kings 18:1-19, Elijah’s Message to Ahab

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

NL Daily Devotion for Tuesday, November 5, 2019

by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff

The journey through 1 Kings continues. And Elijah finally gets to lay down the hammer to King Ahab.

Ahab describes Elijah as a “troubler of Israel.” That got me thinking about who today’s “troublemakers” are and whether or not they are actually prophets. Some may be, for sure. Others, probably not and they’re more than likely just kids trying to stir the pot for trouble’s sake.

Still, the question bears asking—can those who stir our placid waters actually be messengers from God to bring us forth out of our torpor?

Perhaps.

Who do you think are today’s prophets?

(By the way, here’s an amazing song that went through my head as I wrote this devotion. They’re a great band from Minnesota.)

From "Sound of Lies". Jayhawks.
