1 Kings 17:17-24, Elijah Revives the Widow’s Son

Elijah proved himself by his actions. He said he was a prophet of God and that the widow and her son would survive the drought. And then her son died. Maybe. It’s not completely clear. But he was basically dead and the woman was furious. Elijah had not lived up to his claims. So Elijah makes it right. He heals the woman’s son, and now she’s satisfied that he is who and whose he says he is.

We can talk all we want about our faith, about what it means to follow in the way of Jesus. Are we living that out in our daily lives? Do we say we love our neighbors as ourselves? How do we show it? I can tell you I’m not doing this perfectly by any means. This isn’t about self-condemnation, but about self-reflection. I can ask God for help, as Elijah does, and for God to work through my actions. And through me, God can bring healing into the world.

When have I asked God to help me live out my faith in my daily life?
