Romans 8:18-39, Nothing Can Separate Us

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 8:38-39

NL Daily Devotion for Monday, May 29, 2023

by R. M. Fergus, Clergy Stuff

Consider yourself held. This passage is so rich, so beautiful, in its imagery and its bold proclamation that no matter what happens in this world, God is right there with you. All of us face challenges in our lives, sometimes small, sometimes world-shattering. We face loss, illness, anxiety, financial insecurity, torn relationships, injury, disappointment, uncertainty, injustice, depression, fear, natural disasters, violence, broken promises, shattered dreams, and more. And nothing—nothing!—can tear us out of God’s loving arms. Not even death. Honestly, I don’t know what else to say about this. It’s just that simple and profound. Just take some time to mull this over, to dwell with it for a time, and be moved by God’s unending love for you.

Where do I see God’s love for me when I’m struggling?
