Romans 15:22-33, Paul’s Plan to Visit Rome

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in earnest prayer to God on my behalf, so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company.

NL Daily Devotion for Saturday, June 15, 2019

I am often in awe of Paul’s extensive journeys. He traveled enormous distances at a time when travel was anything but easy. Any time he set out, there was absolutely no guarantee he would reach his destination. Yet he kept going. Part of what I think kept him going was the opportunity to visit these communities, to come to them with joy and be refreshed in their company.

Isn’t this what life in Christian community is about? How beautiful is the opportunity to be with one another, to sing and pray and praise God together, to break bread together! I gotta be honest—sometimes I look at going to church as a “have to” rather than a “get to.” How awesome it would be to turn that attitude around, to go to my brothers and sisters with joy and be refreshed in their company!

God, call me into your precious community with a joyful heart. Amen.
