Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.’ ‘See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone’s work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.’”

The world is still a broken place. Humanity has made a right mess out of a lot of things. Despite the constant underpinning called out by mystics and prophets of every age that our purpose and duty is to live humbly in love and service to one another, on the whole we have, as societies, acted out of fear of not having enough and fear of not being enough. We have worshipped money and material possessions, fame, and power. We have victimized literally millions of people in our hopeless quest for security. And there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight.
God calls to us out of the mess and says, “Yes, it’s a mess. And it will be a mess. And I am still God—ever-present, ever-loving. I was at the beginning and will be at the end. No one is alone. No one is outside. No one will be left behind.” Let that be the amen and amen for today.
How can I put my trust in God right at this moment?
