I often consider that it’s not just the music that we hear in church that reflects the wonder of God’s glorious complexity and beauty. That is to say, I believe that lots of music (not just the hymns) can show us beauty.
Music is unlike any other creation on this planet. Not only can musicians participate in the beauty, but listeners, too, can participate by simply listening!
I would hope that the modern church would look to popular music. And by saying that I don’t just mean to look at their style, but look at the energy and joy that you can find in it. There is a time for staid and steady, too, but one hopes that the God-hood we find in music isn’t just in some church hymnal.
