Psalm 91:9-12, God as Refuge

Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent.

Many communities of faith, churches, and spiritual gatherings use Psalm 91 as the last reading before retiring.

Once, I went to a Roman Catholic monastery and spent a week there. I grew to love singing Psalm 91 with the monks, and today even reading it again brings back memories of refuge. It’s similar to the feeling that everything’s gonna be okay.

We need to hear that, yes, everything will, in fact, be okay in the end. Because our beginning and our ending belongs always with our first and last refuge, which is God.

My refuge and strength, do not forget me this week. Amen.
