You rule the raging of the sea;
when its waves rise, you still them.

This week’s daily reading for the Narrative Lectionary on this day begins with the very heavens shouting forth praise for God.

When I was a little boy, my mother would take us to our lake cabin “up north.” (In Minnesota nearly everyone has some connection to a lake “up north.”)

One of the things I would love to do is lie back on an old mattress that my grandfather had attached to a swing underneath a tree next to the lake. I would lie there, looking up at the sky and dreaming about the clouds.

I would compare the shapes of clouds and share my thoughts on what they represented to my cousins and my brother, both of whom who would also enjoy looking into the sky.

The wonders of creation can bring a person closer to God, but they also cause us to wonder about the place we came from.

But maybe that’s God’s purpose! We are to look above to praise God and to always search for our connection with the Infinite.

Do you ever look up at the sky? What do you see?
