Psalm 66:8-12, Praise for God’s Goodness to Israel III

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Bless our God, O peoples,
let the sound of his praise be heard,
who has kept us among the living,
and has not let our feet slip.

It’s not always easy to trust God. Despite having a lot going for me these days, I continue to be plagued by doubts about my future. I have seen God’s action in myriad ways in my life, and God has “not let my feet slip.” And yet I question. Sure, God, you’ve brought me this far and I’m okay, but, you know, I don’t know what’s going to happen in a month, six months, a year. Maybe you could give me some guarantees?

I think it’s just human nature to worry about the things we can’t control (which is pretty much everything). In those moments of worry, we would do well to focus on gratitude for all the ways God has shown up for us in the past, and “Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of our praise be heard!”

How has God taken care of me throughout my life?
