Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“Blessed be God,
because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his steadfast love from me.”

God answers. Maybe not the way we’re looking for. Maybe not the way we’d prefer it if we were the ones in charge. But if we are aware of our connection to the God Who Is, in whom we live and move and have our being, then we cannot help but recognize that in God nothing is wasted, destroyed, neglected, or despised. God’s love—God’s presence in and with and through us and those around us—is steadfast, and God will never remove that love from anyone. God can’t. Because God is love, and insofar as God is the ground of all being, then we are loved eternally, limitlessly, prodigally, and our prayers for that connection can never be rejected.
Sure, if you’re praying for your favorite sports team to win, you’re probably in for disappointment a lot of the time. But if you’re praying for those things that cannot perish, you will be satisfied.
What things do I pray for? Do I feel like God answers? Why or why not?
