Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Friday, July 9, 2021
by R. M. Fergus, Clergy Stuff
Forever is a long time. Incomprehensibly long. When I was a kid, I used to throw myself into existential crises by trying to grasp the concept of eternity. Face it, we’re finite. I turn fifty this fall, and I’m thinking I have, what, maybe three decades left? Four if I’m lucky. Honestly, I don’t dwell on it. I’m grateful to be pretty grounded that way.
But God? God’s steadfast love is forever. For. Ev. Er. And how awesome is that? It means God’s love was before I showed up in 1971, and will long after I’m outta here. It means God’s love was there for my ancestors, no matter what they were going through, and it means it will be there for my kids, and generations to come.
Eternal and holy God, I thank you with all that I am for your steadfast love. Amen.
