Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Wednesday, February 13, 2019

There’s nothing quite as terrifying as a summer storm. Still, they are wonderfully beautiful, too, in their own way. I love especially when the rain just gushes out of the sky. I can’t help but wonder how the air can hold that much moisture!
But storms are very scary. They can take your life.
Imagine how it must have been for the disciples; they weren’t just in the middle of a storm—they were in the middle of a storm, out in the middle of the lake, standing on a rickety fishing boat!
Jesus’ rebuke of the disciples fear I believe isn’t so much of a chiding as it is an assurance that God will always be there, whether in a storm or within fair weather.
God, thank you for storms, but thank you, too, for calming my wild and turbulent heart.
