God's Holy Spirit

Narrative Lectionary Daily Devotions written by Kace Leetch from Clergy Stuff.

Holy Spirit's love when we are depleted

All this loving that we've talked about all week can seem overwhelming. We are to love God, love our brothers and sisters, love our neighbors, love our enemies, and love ourselves. But what about when we're exhausted, overworked, and overwhelmed? How do we love when we're depleted of energy and emotion?

In those moments, we cling to the Spirit we have been given to guide and assist us. God has given us the Holy Spirit to sustain us when we are depleted. And in those moments, maybe the best way we can love is to allow others to lift us up in love.

Narrative Lectionary Text: 1 John 3:23-24,

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.
