Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard: Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things ”

There is so much we don’t know. So much we’ll never know. Not least because God is unknowable in any human sense. Yet, when we take the time to connect with God, when we act out our faith in concrete ways of love for neighbor, when we call to God, she answers us, and sometimes tells us great and hidden things that we have not known.
I have epiphanies all the time. Sometimes little, sometimes big. Sometimes simple, sometimes profound. They come when I am walking in nature, when I am sitting in worship, when I am drifting off to sleep at night, in my dreams, when I read something challenging. I know I will never fully comprehend God, but I answer the invitation to know God better over and over, and I am richly rewarded for my openness, my teachability.
God made all that is. God is incomprehensible. Ineffable. And God wants us to go deeper, ask more, and be ready to receive wisdom.
What “great and hidden things” have I learned from God?
