Isaiah 63:7-14, God Is Gracious

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Then they remembered the days of old,
of Moses his servant.
Where is the one who brought them up out of the sea
with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is the one who put within them
his holy spirit,

The prophet Isaiah bid the people of Israel to remember the “days of old.” What that was really about was remembering who they were and whose they were. Identity, you see, is always founded within relationship. Relationships, places, actions, and love consistently shed a new light upon what it means to be “you.”

This week, ask yourself who you are. What makes you, you? Would your relationship to others be any different if you had been born in a different time period, or situationally you had different experiences?

Finally, ask yourself this question . . .

How is your relationship to God informed by people who have reminded you to love one another, and above all, learn to love and respect yourself?
