Isaiah 40:1-11, Comfort, Comfort

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.
— Isaiah 40:1-2

NL Daily Devotion for Wednesday, January 1, 2019

by Daniel D. Maurer, Clergy Stuff

Happy New Year from Clergy Stuff! It’s appropriate that today’s reading for the daily Narrative Lectionary devotional has chosen the text from Isaiah 40.

Watch and see . . . this year will be saturated with comparisons people will make with the numbers of the year 2-0-2-0 and “twenty-twenty vision.” Mark my words, leaders especially will state that, from now on, we want to look at the worlds problems and approach them with perfect vision.

My guess, though, is that we will fall woefully short. But that doesn’t mean that we have to give up. Instead, looking to scripture, we’re encouraged to hear that will shall receive comfort and warmth, even in the difficult times yet to come.

Where do you find your comfort spiritually?
