Hosea 6:1-7:16, A Call to Repent

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord;
his appearing is as sure as the dawn;
he will come to us like the showers,
like the spring rains that water the earth.
— Hosea 6:3

NL Daily Devotion for Thursday, November 14, 2019

by R. Fergus Moir, Clergy Stuff

It’s been generations of terrible kings in Israel and Judah by the time of Hosea. One after another, they turn the people away from God and glory in wealth and treachery, warfare and destruction. Hosea comes to them with a promise. If they will just turn back to God, all will be forgiven. God will heal wounds and revive the people like spring rains upon the parched earth.

This promise still stands. We are all little rulers of our own domains, and all tempted again and again to wrong-doing by the trappings of the world. We are self-centered and cause harm to others and the earth. We need only turn back to God, again and again, and God will be right there waiting for us, again and again, healing, refreshing, and reviving.

How can I turn back to God and repent today?
