God Will Restore Israel, Jeremiah 16:14-21

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

Therefore, the days are surely coming, says the Lord, when it shall no longer be said, ‘As the Lord lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of Egypt’, but ‘As the Lord lives who brought the people of Israel up out of the land of the north and out of all the lands where he had driven them.’ For I will bring them back to their own land that I gave to their ancestors.
— Jeremiah 16:14-15

We need restoration. We need to learn from our mistakes and be transformed. We need to rip out some of our deep societal inequities out by the roots and plant new seeds of radical welcome and the flourishing of all creation. It’s not going to be easy. Sometimes I despair that it’s even possible. But I have to believe that with God all things are possible.

God can and will restore us, not out of some ego-driven desire to get accolades over it, but because God loves us and all that God has made. In these seemingly impossible times, I will cling to God’s good will.

What would a truly transformed society based in radical welcome look like?
