Galatians 1:1-12, Welcome to the Galatians

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another gospel, but there are some who are confusing you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Hmm. Paul’s pretty convinced he has the only “right” way to understand the gospel. But aren’t we all kinda like that? When I read this, I’d like to think, “Yeah! People who don’t interpret the gospel the way I think it should be interpreted are wrong! They’re delusional!” But immediately, I imagine those who see the gospel differently than I do turning around and trying to tell me I’m the one who’s confused about what it really means to be a Christian. And I’m not having any of that.

So that’s when I have to check myself and go to God with a humble heart. “Okay, God, what is it you want me to do today to live into my faith?” I have to let go of all the others my ego insists are doing it “wrong” and trust that God can work in the world through each of us.

Gracious God, inspire me to live each day as you would have me. Amen.
