I’m a do-er. A figure-it-out-er. A fix-er. Keeping still is not in my milieu. Not when there are problems to be solved. So being told that God is going to do the heavy lifting, and all I have to do is accept the help doesn’t always sit so well with me. I mean, I would love God to fight my battles for me. But I don’t necessarily trust that God will. You know, and at least guarantee the outcome I want.

But here the Israelites were faced with an army, their backs to the sea, and all hope seemed utterly lost. Did they have any choice but to keep still and wait for God to deliver them? There was no doing. No figuring it out. No fixing. There was just faith. Faith in the promise of Moses’ words, words which came from God to the people. I should have such unquestioning faith.

How can I practice faith that God will help me in my time of need?
