Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power.”

Paul is the king of the long sentence. But boy is this one a good one. What a wonderful invitation to come to know Jesus through the Word and through Christian community. I have always loved digging into the Bible in a group of people, struggling and discerning and learning together—there are times when we really tap into that spirit of wisdom and revelation. When we do this, we are here promised to know, among other things, the hope into which God calls us. I find these deeply comforting words in times when it is difficult to find hope. It reminds me that words of hope are to be found in the Word and wherever two or three are gathered in Christ’s name.
Gracious God, when I am struggling, draw me back into the love of my community, that I may remember hope there. Amen.
