Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today
NL Daily Devotion for Monday, May 24, 2021
by R. M. Fergus, Clergy Stuff
I wanted to pick a short sentence to reflect on, but, alas, Paul doesn’t write those. (Ha!) I love the prayer that God would give us a spirit of wisdom and understanding as we come to know Jesus. It’s not as though we decide we’re Christians and then our learning is done. It’s not possible to know God completely, but far from this being a barrier, it is, in fact, and invitation. God draws us in, encouraging us to read the Bible and talk about it with others, giving us opportunities to dig more deeply, see more clearly, know more fully. And this invitation never ends. We don’t arrive. Hopefully we grow in wisdom, but remain always open to new revelation in our ongoing journey of learning. Personally, I love the opportunity to write these daily devotions, because it puts me in front of texts I may or may not have read a thousand time and each makes me pause and reflect on what new wisdom and revelation might be there for me and, hopefully, for you.
Like Paul, I pray that God give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you continue to answer God’s invitation to know God better and more deeply.
When was I last surprised by a Biblical text?
