by Rev. Stefanie Fauth, Clergy Stuff
When we were kids, we sang, "This Little Light of Mine," in Sunday School. We were filled with such energy - I really did want to let my light shine. I wasn't afraid to share the news that I loved God - everyone got to hear!
As I grew up, that changed.
I became afraid to share my love of God - and I would avoid talking about it completely. I didn't want people to know I was a Christian - because let's face it: The word "Christian" has become synonymous for judgmental and harsh.
So those of us who find God to be filled with grace and love and hope hide in the shadows, wishing we were represented by a voice that was more loving and told the truth we feel about a gracious God.
But if we sit back and hide the world will believe that Christians are the kind of people that exclude others for not believing correctly.
The world has had enough hate - it's time for those of us who believe in a caring and loving God to start coming out of the shadows.
We must teach others about God's love - help them to see Jesus' teaching as grace and compassion filled - so the world can find it's own way out of the shadows.
Narrative Lectionary Daily Reading:
Job 27:7-12
“May my enemy be like the wicked, and may my opponent be like the unrighteous. For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts them off, when God takes away their lives? Will God hear their cry when trouble comes upon them? Will they take delight in the Almighty? Will they call upon God at all times?
"I will teach you concerning the hand of God; that which is with the Almighty I will not conceal. All of you have seen it yourselves; why then have you become altogether vain?"
