Peter is calling in the promise here. God’s people made a covenant with God way back when, and God called them to be a blessing to all the world. Now, Peter says, it’s time to make good. God’s covenant was fulfilled in Jesus, and we are all called to carry Jesus’ radical, inclusive, just, and all-embracing love into the world.
That call didn’t end with those folks in Jerusalem. It continues to this day. We, too, are descendants of Abraham and Sarah, called into the covenant blessing and the covenant which is Jesus Christ. We get to go out and be a blessing to everyone we interact with in big and small ways. We get to be a blessing to the world through just action. And in our blessing, we continue to be blessed again and again and again.
