2 Kings 5:1-19, Elisha Heals Namaan

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

But Naaman became angry and went away, saying, ‘I thought that for me he would surely come out, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and would wave his hand over the spot, and cure the leprosy!

Today’s story reminds us that sometimes, belief and actions are much simpler than we make them out to be.

It’s easy to think that the only “true” faith has to do x or x number of things per day for it to be meaningful in your life. Namaan was disappointed when he had traveled the whole way, only to be told to wash in the Jordan and you’ll be fine.

“Oh! All I had to do was wash up?!”

I can relate with Namaan. I think I’d be mad, too, coming that whole distance to hear that’s all I had to do.

But God’s wonders so often are found in the simple acts of faith and daily chores we’re called to do to help others.

God, stir a faith within my life, reminding me of your presence in even the simplest of tasks. Amen.
