2 Corinthians 1:12-24, The Postponement of Paul’s Visit

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

For in [Jesus Christ] every one of God’s promises is a ‘Yes.’ For this reason it is through him that we say the ‘Amen’, to the glory of God.
— 2 Corinthians 1:20

We could use some more “Yes”es right now. Yes, we will do whatever it takes to establish and protect justice and equality for our BIPOC siblings. Yes, we will establish and protect justice and equality for our LGBTQIA+ siblings. Yes, we will cooperate and do whatever it takes to keep our vulnerable populations (and everyone else) safe from COVID-19. Yes, we will take drastic action to counter climate change. Yes, yes, and more yes!

Yet we flawed humans fumble and stumble, argue about the “right” way to do this, dissemble when we’re uncomfortable, want to “wait and see.” God is unequivocal. God’s promises are always a ‘Yes!’ and God calls us, as covenant partners, into those yes-es. Calls us to action in proclaiming “YES!” to the flourishing of all creation.

Affirming God, inspire us to make our “yes” a “yes” so that we take action in support of all people and all that you have made. Amen.
