God's Testimony
Narrative Lectionary Daily Devotions written by Kace Leetch from Clergy Stuff.
The premise of today's reading is that we listen to the testimonies of humans daily. It was accepted that two or three testimonies were enough to prove an idea or witness of an event. Receiving and accepting testimonies of people was a common, daily occurrence.
But receiving a testimony directly from God was far less common. And the testimony of God was not just a spoken word, but the Word -- Jesus Christ, God made flesh. The presence of Jesus was God's testimony -- God's witness that eternal life belonged to God's children.
What testimonies do you receive and accept daily? Whose voice do you listen to? What does it take to prove an idea or witness of an event? What does it take to accept the testimony from God?
Narrative Lectionary Text: 1 John 5:9-12
If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son.
Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
