It seems obvious, no?

At this point, I'm left wondering who—if anybody—believes in Jesus at all! Perhaps that is what makes Jesus today most convincing. You see, I don't believe he was trying to curry favor with anyone back then. He simply told the truth, as it was. The truth hurts; often those in power are the ones who feel the most hurt by the truth when it's staring them in the face.

It's hopeful to me that Jesus was more blatantly obvious to embody that truth. More, perhaps, than we even realize nowadays.

It makes you begin to question our own authorities and those who would like to tell you the "way things really are." And it makes me believe that the "way things are" most probably are not the way things really are!

Narrative Lectionary Text: John 7:45-52

Then the temple police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, ‘Why did you not arrest him?’ The police answered, ‘Never has anyone spoken like this!’ Then the Pharisees replied, ‘Surely you have not been deceived too, have you? Has any one of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, which does not know the law—they are accursed.’ Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before, and who was one of them, asked, ‘Our law does not judge people without first giving them a hearing to find out what they are doing, does it?’ They replied, ‘Surely you are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and you will see that no prophet is to arise from Galilee.’
