Boaz Flirts with Ruth
Narrative Lectionary Daily Devotions written by Kace Leetch from Clergy Stuff.
Now, this is flirting for the 1300th BC century! Boaz is clearly taken with Ruth and invites her to sit with him at dinnertime. Additionally, he scooped up some of the grain the reapers had harvested and gave it to her -- enough for herself and to bring home for Naomi.
Since Boaz was probably 80 and Ruth 40, I wonder if Boaz was even thinking he might have the opportunity to become her husband. It hadn't yet occurred to Ruth, who wouldn't even think it until Naomi set the wheels in motion in the next chapter.
For now, the two are behaving admirably, and it is oh, so adorable! (Cue sappy love-story soundtrack.) How will these two lovebirds ever get together?!
Narrative Lectionary Text: Ruth 2:14
At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come here, and eat some of this bread, and dip your morsel in the sour wine.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he heaped up for her some parched grain. She ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over.
