You Are More

Narrative Lectionary Daily Devotions written by Kace Leetch from Clergy Stuff.

I'm almost reluctant to say too much about this text because the beautiful language and imagery of this text speaks for itself. Sometimes I can sit with just the phrase, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made," and it brings me to tears. It is God's promise that there is nothing wrong with me. I am perfect just the way God made me.

People have devised so many ways to judge and diminish others. We are judged on our color, gender, sexual preference, size, occupation, family and marital status, financial status, religion, and where we were born. But God erases all of that when God reminds us that we are made in God's image. We are knit together with no stitch out of place. We are intricately woven by the master craftsperson. We are perfect because we are God's.

"You are more than the choices that you've made,
You are more than the sum of your past mistakes,
You are more than the problems you create,
You've been remade."

Narrative Lectionary Text: Psalm 139:13-18

For it was you who formed my inward parts;
   you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
   Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well.
   My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
   intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
In your book were written
   all the days that were formed for me,
   when none of them as yet existed.
How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
   How vast is the sum of them!
I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
   I come to the end—I am still with you.
