Jesus was silent as he stood before Pilate. His silence is remarkable. Jesus could have proclaimed himself to be the King of the Jews. He could have taunted Pilate telling him that he had no power over the King of the Jews. As a prophet Jesus could have declared God’s judgment upon the Roman Empire and foretold its demise. Jesus, though, chose silence. He was tortured and executed and by those actions demonstrated that he truly was God’s Messiah and revealed God’s love.

As disciples of Jesus sometimes of walk of faith doesn’t match our talk about the faith. People, however, won’t listen to our words until they witness our actions. They want to see that responding to God’s love and grace and being a disciple of Jesus makes a difference in our lives. To modify a common saying, “There is a reason why God created us with one mouth and two ears” and also two hands and two feet.”

Mark 15:1-5

As soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate. Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “You say so.” Then the chief priests accused him of many things. Pilate asked him again, “Have you no answer? See how many charges they bring against you.” But Jesus made no further reply, so that Pilate was amazed.
