Mark 1:9-11 "I Am You"

$6.99

by Jonathan Bing

Nine verses into Mark—after we learn that John is not even worthy to untie Jesus’ sandals—Jesus is baptized. By John. Why would “Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God” (as Mark writes in verse 1), even need a “baptism for the forgiveness of sins” (verse 4)?

While we stand in awe of the miracles Jesus performs, the truth is he also struggles, is tempted and suffers—truly understanding what it means to be human. That is also the reason Jesus is baptized: Jesus is one of us.

It is why, in this skit, Jesus is written as a woman.

Themes: God fully understands all of humanity, Feminine Imagery of Jesus
