Boaz Finds a Woman at His Feet

Narrative Lectionary Daily Devotions written by Kace Leetch from Clergy Stuff.

boaz is confused and concerned

I can imagine Boaz was confused and maybe even a little frightened. He had been partying with the other landowners to celebrate their bountiful harvest. He drank a bit too much and passed out on the threshing floor where women were not allowed. When he woke, he was startled to find a woman near his naked body!

"Who are you?!" he asked. It turned out to be Ruth, the young woman who had been gleaning in his fields. The young woman who left her homeland to take care of her mother-in-law. The young woman he had been flirting with. What's he to think?

Narrative Lectionary Text: Ruth 3:8-9

At midnight the man was startled, and turned over, and there, lying at his feet, was a woman! He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant; spread your cloak over your servant, for you are next-of-kin.”
