Hebrews 1:5-14, The Son Superior to Angels

Narrative Lectionary Key Verse for Today

For to which of the angels did God ever say,
‘You are my Son;
today I have begotten you’?
Or again,
‘I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son’?
— Hebrews 1:5

To a modern reader, the whole topic whether Jesus was inferior or superior to the angels seems sort of irrelevant. We know that Jesus is/was “the man” and that no angel can compare to the glowing grace of the Son of God!

To the intended recipients of the Letter to the Hebrews, though, it meant a great deal. For only Jesus can save, because Jesus is and was ONE with the the Creator of the universe.

Today, we might reflect what it means that God became human so that we might become like God.

What are your thoughts on how high up the totem pole Jesus is/was?
